About Us

Hi, my name is Amanda,

Brought up near London in a family of retailers, I had a strong sense from a young age of what I wanted to do. I worked at The Gap during my fashion degree and then landed my dream job at Harvey Nichols straight out of college. A few years later, I moved to Bentalls, where I had the amazing opportunity to buy for their womenswear department.

Things never really slowed down after that, until an opportunity came along and, as a family, we moved to Scotland. We honestly haven’t looked back. In 2015, I finally plucked up the courage to open my own shop. Biscuit was born in Edinburgh, and it’s been non-stop ever since.

Thank you for your continued support of my small business. You make it happen.

Love,
Amanda x

How Biscuit Got Its Name

I was lucky enough to spend a year in California in 1992 as part of my fashion degree. I chose California partly for the sunshine, but mostly because my gorgeous extended family lived there.

At weekends, I’d escape LA and head down the coast to stay with them. My younger cousin Croc (yes, that really is his name!) took great pride in introducing me to something new and typically American each visit, from S’mores around a fire pit to peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, which I still love to this day.

One weekend, it was Oreos. They hadn’t launched in the UK yet, so this was my first taste. After one, as most of you will understand, there simply had to be another. I asked him to pass me another biscuit and the whole room burst out laughing.

Completely puzzled, I asked what was so funny.

“We feed our dogs biscuits,” they said. “These are cookies!”

And just like that, I became Biscuit.

The name stuck, and years later it still hangs proudly above my door.

Biscuit is me. My style, my instincts, and what I believe women want from a small independent shop. Personal service. Honest advice. A place that feels warm and welcoming.

Biscuit is also our wonderful team, made up of people of all ages and experiences. We pride ourselves on thoughtful advice and genuine customer care, both in store and online.

We love a good chat and we love sharing stories.

And Biscuit isn’t just about clothes. It’s about cooking, books, travel, ideas, and all the little things that inspire us every day.

Because Biscuit is more than a shop. It’s a feeling.
